really interesting to see how curators are fighting with steaming services that don’t want people to connect on their platforms—they used to have messaging, and they took it away. but artists and music influencers are still finding ways to connect with fans via third party platforms. almost like we need a service merges these needs lol
This was very interesting! I'm always thinking about how I can use TikTok more to spread the word on great music, and Carly's approach has given me some ideas. One thing that surprised me was her frequent use of still images in a carousel rather than video. While I enjoy making videos, it can be time-consuming, so I might try doing more with still pictures on TikTok, especially when I already do it on Instagram.
it’s fascinating to hear honest responses about how she uses money in music, and how Gen Z engages with artists. I think this article further highlights how CURATION and WORLD BUILDING (by artists or the go-between curators) is the way for music to remain relevant.
Are there curators like this outside of the pop many subgenres? I know one in the blues field (Don's Tunes, on YT), but how about the many Funk bands that are popping out (Vulfpeck, Ghostnotes, etc) and that are filling bigger and bigger venues?

Super interesting to see the mixed takes on AI music.
Great post! Carly has the dream job 😆 Amazing to see curators getting their flowers!

Super interesting read, Emily. To say that business model "comes with ethical friction" feels like a bit of a euphemism though, haha.
FANTASTIC post Emily. Super interesting
Thanks Jim!
Inspiring! I'm an incorrigible curator and playlister. Maybe I can capitalize on these irresistible urges.
