👋 Hi, I’m Emily White. I’ve been yapping about music, technology, fandom and artist compensation since 2012 at places like Spotify, Billboard and NPR Music.

✍️ I write a monthly essay about the music business, fandom, community, discovery and artist sustainability. Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and publication archives.

💼 I advise early-stage startups shaping the future of creator tools and fan engagement. I help teams turn ambitious ideas into actionable product strategies, guiding them through opportunity discovery, MVP definition, and go-to-market execution.

💡 My music tech journey started early - I went viral for predicting streaming's impact on music as an intern at NPR Music and college radio GM in 2012.

🎵 Then I helped build music’s future. First, on the charts team at Billboard. Then, I joined Spotify in 2016 to build tools for artists to understand their audiences, connect with fans and earn revenue.

💚 As a founding product manager of Spotify for Artists, I helped millions of musicians understand, grow, and monetize their fanbases through direct-to-fan offerings like merch, tickets, listening parties and fan clubs.

⏭️ Now, as the music streaming market matures, but still leaves many artists and fans dissatisfied, I’m interested in what’s coming next.
